Vintner's Spotlight
Al & Cheryl Kellert of Gray Ghost Vineyards

Hometown:  Al hails from Kansas City, Missouri and Cheryl is originally from Springfield, Illinois

Item that is always in your fridge: Gray Ghost Chardonnay and Gray Ghost Adieu

Most challenging wine pairing: Choosing a wine to pair with salad

Best thing about the Virginia Wine Industry: The strong support we have received from the Commonwealth and especially from Governor and Mrs. McDonnell.

Worst thing about the Virginia Wine Industry: The lingering perception of the wine quality which still reflects the early days of the industry's development.

Favorite Bumper Sticker or saying: Winemakers are "grape" lovers

Comfort Food: Roasted Peanuts--at least they are halfway good for you!

Most embarrassing moment: When we inadvertently sold out of a wine and still had a case "on hold" for a loyal customer.  We ended up going to one of our shops that carry Gray Ghost and buying back a case to fulfill our commitment.  As a footnote, that individual has been a steady customer ever since.  This was over eight years ago.  P.S. We paid full retail.

Favorite Wine (yours or anyone else’s): Al: Gray Ghost Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.  Of course, I very much enjoy a good steak, so to me a great wine, i.e:.our Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, is only natural. Cheryl: Gray Ghost Reserve Chardonnay
