December Publisher's Notes

Here it is December and another year comes to a close.  It seems like only yesterday that I was welcoming spring and getting my sailboat ready for the water.  Now the boat is winterized and ready for the cold.

The end of 2009 is also a milestone for us as we conclude 21 years of serving Northern Virginia and the surrounding Old Towns.  It hasn’t been easy but it sure has been fun.  We have shared with you such personalities as former KGB Major General, Oleg D. Kalugin, now a board member of the Spy Museum; Shelia Johnson of Salamander Farm and owner of the Washington Mystics; Terry McAulliffe, former chairman of the Democratic National Committee and gubernatorial candidate; Willard Scott, NBC personality and former Ronald McDonald; James Carville and Mary Matlin and many other exceptional people we have during the years.  We hope we can bring you many more interesting people over the next 21 years.

The real personalities over the past 21 years have been the writers and advertisers who have never let us down.  Some of our writers, as well as some of our advertisers, have been with us every month since the beginning.  Without these people, we could not exist.  You will find their names on the bylines of the articles and photographs and their ads throughout.

I sincerely hope that you have gotten as much pleasure out of the Old Town Crier over the years, as we have had producing it.  I wish for all of you a happy and safe holiday season and look forward to your continued interest in 2010!
