Publishers Notes

For those of you who are reading this, I thank you.  It is comforting to know that print media is still alive and well.  This past month I have run into a number of people who noted that print media is “not what is used to be” and they are turning to internet marketing.  Certainly internet marketing is creeping into mainstream media and has its’ place (that is why we have on-line advertising at oldtowncrier.com), however I get a little testy when the “Old Gray Mare” thought presents itself.

I have to ask myself, if print media is so bad, why is it that every one wants us and other publications to write about them?  Who is going to read it? In their mind no one does, so why is it still important?  Maybe it’s because they want free publicity, but will not pay for advertising.  Say it ain’t so.

If print media is so poor, why do advertisers market their Facebook and Twitter access by advertising them in our publication as well as others.  Could it be because people like to read, especially if the content of the publication is worth reading.  How come we have to keep restocking our racks with the Old Town Crier, is it because they are disappearing into cyberspace?  I don’t think so.  It is because people pick us up, read us, check out the ads, and in a lot of cases, take us home to be shared with family.

I hope that you enjoy reading the Old Town Crier this month and for many months to come.  We have been by your side for over 21 years, and look for 21 more.  Take another look at the cover…there is no old gray mare…just a reflection of the present and the future.  Check out the back cover…that is…oh, you decide for yourself.
