Duncan Cameron serves up a Guinness Stout with a Jameson's Original Irish Whisky!
How did you get started in the bartending business?
I caddied at a country club in Canada as a teenager. After my first year of University I applied for a job at the same club. While getting a tour, I remembered some golfers names and started talking to them as if we were old pals. "Nice round Vic ' "How's the putting game Fred" The interviewer bought my schtick and gave me a job tending bar for these guys. I bought a bar book, figured it out and here I am.
What is your bartender pet peeve?
People who use nonsensical hand signals and gestures that only they can decipher. "Hey do you want me to steal second or lay down a bunt?" Trust me, I'm smarter than I look, I understand words!
What is the best line anyone has ever used to get a free drink from you?
A nice young lady shows up at the bar later in the evening and orders a drink. She looks at me and says "If this ones on you, the rest of the night is on me" I bought it!
What is the most memorable “pick up” line you have ever heard?
My friend Thommy from Rhode Island walks up to a girl and in a thick New England accent says. "You're hot as a rocket" ... I'm not making this up. They've been happily married for a of couple years now, are still in love and have a two year old son.
Can you tell us an interesting story?
Yup! I can tell you several but you’re gonna have to come in to hear them all. Too many to pick just one. Ask about the guy I got drunk on rum who ended up passed out at the back gate of CIA Langley on the anniversary of 9/11 ... or the girl who smashed a car window with her friends prosthetic leg as her ex drove off with his date ... or the middle-aged guy my friend Glenn and I had barking while in a praying position just to get another 1/4 oz of tequila ... or the family who all (mom, dad and daughter) went to jail for different offenses after we kicked them out of the bar ... or my friend who thought he was being attacked by an alligator at the edge of a lake in Florida just before a bunny rabbit hops out of the reeds ... or the time we tricked Glenn into coming out for lunch and sticking him with a $300.00 bar tab cuz we were broke ... how much space we have?
Who would you want to have a drink with and why?
Babe Ruth. I'm a Red Sox fan from New Hampshire and after shattering the curse in 2004 I could now sit down with him at a bar. You know he's got some stories!
