How did you get started in the bartending business?
I am an artist and a naturally gregarious person. These two characteristics coupled, I have always been told that I should be a psychiatrist or a bartender—I think that these two jobs are one in the same.
I got my first bartending job out of high school, while living at the beach.

What is your bartender pet peeve?
My worst pet peeve behind the bar is people snapping their fingers at me in order to gain my attention.

What’s the best line anyone has used in order to get a free drink?
Usually people request or hint for free drinks on their birthday or bachelorette parties. But for those brave enough to request a free drink, I generally have some interesting and slightly comical comebacks.  For example, once someone asked if this one is on me and I said, “sure, if the next round is on you for the bar?”   I use humor to lighten situations.

What’s the most memorable pick up line you’ve heard?
Pick up lines are all so ridiculously corny. No one seriously uses pick-up lines anymore; however, when it comes to meeting someone a funny pick up line is a great ice breaker—there’s nothing like a good sense of humor.

Can you tell us an interesting story?
I’ve got tons of great stories. I always end up being in the right place at the right time or the wrong place at the right time. One of my more memorable stories is meeting Michael Irvin at a DC nightclub and having NO idea who he was or why we were getting special treatment all night…this story is extremely long and hilarious. Another story I have and tell frequently is about the time I picked up 3 of my friends, 4 cases of beer, and drove to Wilmington, NC to see the eye of the storm of a hurricane.
For more details, come chat and have a drink with me at my bar.

Who would you want to have a drink with and why?
Like I mentioned before, I am an artist and there are so many people I would want to throw back a few drinks with. The person I would choose above all others, however, is Salvador Dali. You know he’d have some great stories and perhaps I could glean some artistic insight.

Naomi is behind the bar Monday days and Friday nights. If you have a favorite bartende that you would like to see have featured, please submit their name and place of employment by emailing This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
