Works will be featured at Annapolis Maritime Museum’s Grand Re-Opening December 1st byJefferson Holland
Watercolors, oils, photography, pottery and stained glass are some of the fine art to be displayed in the Annapolis Maritime Museum’s new “Bay Room” as part of the Grand-Reopening of the historic McNasby Oyster Company Building at the Museum on Dec. 1, 2008.
The Annapolis artists featured in this show, like thousands from around the world, draw inspiration for their art from the almost-65,000 square miles of the largest estuary in the United States – the Chesapeake Bay.
“We are fortunate to live so close to such a magical place that offers a never ending supply of compositions and inspiration. It is nearly impossible to be an artist in any of the states that border the Chesapeake and not be drawn to her,” says exhibiting watercolor artist, Rosemary Freitas Williams. “We are fortunate to have such a lovely space right on the water – with the Chesapeake in view – to display our work.”
Artists in this show include: Cameron Bache, John Bildahl, Cindy Fletcher Holden, Rosemary Freitas Williams, Anita Hagan, Michael Land, Lisa Masson, Jean McCoy, Raleigh Schein, and John Williams,
A portion of the proceeds from sale of the art will go to the Museum.
The $1.2 million project to restore the landmark was funded by the State of Maryland, the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority and the City of Annapolis, along with corporate and private donations. The 7,000-square-foot building now has an assembly hall – the “Bay Room” where the art exhibit will be housed through the end of the year – a caterer’s kitchen, and a large exhibition gallery. Office spaces, a meeting/class room, and a curator’s workshop are still under renovation.
