Digital City Kiosks

They created a tool that allows local businesses to share their product with the masses. They found a way to instantly reach out to potential consumers seeking information. They can provide details, directions, and even coupons with a click of a button. Who are they and how did they accomplish all of this? They are Digital City Kiosks, and they created a virtual concierge service that can change the way companies advertise and share information.

It started in 2002 after business partners Dean Goldsmith and Greg Askew were on a business trip. They realized the importance of high speed internet when their only option was to walk to the local copy, print, fax shop to log on. After enduring the inconvenience, they brought high speed internet to hotel rooms across the nation. Over the next couple of years, this feature was consolidated by major brands. Dean and Greg used the opportunity to take their idea to the next level.

Dean shared that out of a standard hotel’s hundreds of rooms maybe ten rooms use the high speed internet that is now an option. However, the majority of the guests stand in line seeking information about local attractions, restaurants, or directions. Digital City Kiosks created a medium for sharing these details with the guest, instantly and at any time during the stay.

These virtual concierge kiosks bring information about local attractions to the guests in just seconds. Visiting Alexandria and looking to get a taste of the local fare? Review the restaurants, select Shooter McGee’s, and print off directions to get there. Want to take a boat tour and see the sights, check out the Dandy’s advertisement and quickly get details, times, and tickets. Need to relax after days of business meetings? Search for salons and spas and make an appointment at Circe’s. Digital City Kiosks puts information about local businesses to the people who need it, when they want it.

We all know that our fine neighborhood is a destination for tourists from across the country and across the world. Many local businesses don’t cater to tourists because maintaining their individuality is important to them and to the residents of Alexandria, Washington DC, Arlington, etc. After all, they are the customers who will be here after the tourists leave. However, when a tourist is visiting this area, they are seeking information. They want to go out and experience the local happenings. Not every hotel can staff their concierge team twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. Digital City Kiosks can spread the details that tourists want and that businesses want to share.

The Kiosks are truly a revolutionary step in advertising. Imagine being able to share information with potential customers that is guaranteed to be current and tracked. Ads can be updated often and easily entered into the Kiosks. Additionally, Digital City Kiosks provides metrics. Advertisers can actually see how many people are viewing information about their company! Virtual concierge services “bring the power of television, the speed of the web, and the editorial value of print advertising.”

So, how do you advertise an advertising business? Dean and Greg brought on a strong team to grow Digital City Kiosks in the Northern Virginia area. I met several members of the Sales Team and saw a common theme among the group. They all believe that this company will be successful because all of them are committed to supporting local businesses – they are one, too! This is not an anonymous, “Corporate America”, organization where customers will be a number. Digital City Kiosks are excited about “being part of the fabric of the community.” I am excited to see how they change the direction of advertising.
