Historic Mount Vernon hosts a special new exhibition, "George Washington & His Generals." The National Treasure Tour combines Hollywood and history, giving visitors stories about the filming and also information on how the behind-the-scenes locations were used during George Washington's time. Included in this approximately hour-long walking tour is the Mansion's basement and cornerstone, the setting for a pivotal scene in the movie. The National Treasure Tours are offered at the following times: 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.

This event celebrates the history of wine in Virginia with candlelit tours of the Mansion, including the basement where Washington stored his wine, and live jazz on the east lawn overlooking the scenic Potomac River. This film follows the disturbing journey of discovery into the history and “living consequences” of slavery. Katrina Browne discovered her slave-trading ancestors from Rhode Island were not an aberration. Rather, they were the most prominent actors in the North’s vast complicity in slavery, buried in myths of Northern innocence. Browne and other descendants, traveled from Rhode Island to Ghana to Cuba and back, revisiting the Triangle Trade of the largest slave-trading family in U.S. history.

Cliff Sloan, the co-author of "The Great Decision: Jefferson, Adams, Marshall, and the Battle for the Supreme Court," will tell the exciting story of Marbury v. Madison, probably the most important Supreme Court decision in the history of the United States. (The case established the idea that courts may oversee other branches of government.) But it is also an Alexandria story with three of the four plaintiffs and their attorney being Alexandrians, and important events leading up to the case taking place in Alexandria.
