Publishers Notes

September appears to be a month in which to remember.  I remember the heat of this past summer and the cold and snow of last winter…and wonder if they will repeat.  It is time to remember 9 11 and that tragic day.  Time to remember those we love and those who love us.
I have used yet another picture of me in this months publishers notes (always seems to create some controversy).  It is my senior picture in high school.  I really can’t remember looking like that, but my high school class will hold its 45th reunion in Solomons this month, and I bet my classmates recognize this picture before they recognize me.  Even the passage of time causes us to remember.  Congratulations to the 1965 class of Oxon Hill High School.
I remember when I first came to Old Town in 1977 and heard Al Williams III play his clarinet and saxophone…he makes Kenny G sound like an amateur.  Unfortunately I will be at my reunion on September 18th when Al plays at the Carlyle Club.  Don’t miss him!
Our Personality Profile this month will certainly be worth remembering as Lori Welch interviews Suzanne Malveaux of CNN.  Charles Oppman takes us to Alexandria sandwich shops and helps us to remember what prices were like in 1970.  In the Caribbean Connection Jaimie Elliott  visits Norman Island and the Willy T.  A little over a year ago Gerry Ragland, Dave Stasko and I joined our friend Doug Weaver on the Willy T.  We don’t remember much!  And just like every other month, Gigs and Digs takes a trip down memory lane.
And if you want to remember what speed is like, read the Day Trip article and take a trip to Solomons Island the first weekend of October for the first ever Solomons Offshore Grand Prix race.
Remember to drink a lot of water, exercise, have fun and if given the choice…dance!
