1 Day, 3 Stages, 28 Bands, 15 Bucks – Celebrating 12 Years of Great Local Music on the Shores of Back Creek in Annapolis.
Since 1997, for one glorious Saturday each summer, the Back Creek end of Second Street has been closed to traffic and opened to the musical extravaganza known as Eastport a Rockin’. Showcasing some of the best musicians in the Annapolis – Baltimore – Washington area, this festival regularly draws crowds of over 2,000 neighbors, friends and visitors, all hoping to hear the next big band while enjoying a host of local food and beverages, kids’ games and activities, local artists and general fun in the summer sun, all the while raising money for very deserving local charities.
Eastport a Rockin’ takes place on Second Street between Eastern Avenue and Back Creek. The site encompasses Bay Shore Avenue and the campus of the Annapolis Maritime Museum. The streets and sidewalks will be lined with vendor booths featuring local artisans, crafters, non-profit organizations, entertainment and much more. The Kids’ Area, always a popular section of the festival, will feature a moon bounce, face painters, tattoo artists, laser tag, cotton candy and other great family-friendly activities. A range of food items will be available for purchase throughout the event, including BBQ, hot dogs, hamburgers, grilled chicken, Italian sausages, gyros, snow cones and more. Young and old will enjoy the variety of beverages on hand, including Miller and Yuengling products, Moveable Mixtures’ full range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, smoothies and coffee drinks.
In addition to providing an opportunity to hear fantastic music, Eastport a Rockin’ raises much-needed funds for local charities, including the Anne Arundel County Crisis Response System and the Annapolis Maritime Museum, on whose grounds part of the festival is held. Funds are raised through the entrance fees to the festival, as well as food, beverage and craft sales. Admission to this fantastic event is only $15 for ages 12 and up. Tickets can be purchased on the day of the festival.
Music is a key ingredient of Eastport a Rockin’, as it has been since the very beginning. Over the last 11 years, Eastport a Rockin’ has featured such bands as Good Charlotte and Jimmy’s Chicken Shack, and the next big act might be in this year’s line-up. From rock to folk to roots to jazz to bluegrass to funk, the breadth of music types found at the Festival is sure to please everyone who attends.
Sponsors for this year’s festival include Comcast, WRNR, Shock Treatment Screen Printing, Moveable Mixtures, Davis’ Pub, Chesapeake Music Guide, JWorld, Yuengling, Miller, Eastport Yacht Center and Bay Shore Marine.
